President Aquino knee-jerk solutions to save OFWs, soften oil price impact

Civil unrest swept across the Middle East and North Africa. The mass uprisings began in Tunisia in January and spread like wildfire to other countries in the region. Long-entrenched absolute rulers like Hosni Mubarak relinquished power.

For the Philippines, the Arab world’s pockets of political crises had wider economic ripples aside from the feared drop in OFW remittances. In 2010, 81 percent of oil and fuel products the Philippines imported came from the Middle East.

MANILA—The Philippine Basketball Association, in line with its commitment to give something back to its fans, will play at least one game in Dubai each year for the next five seasons.
This was a promise made by commissioner Chito Salud to a huge assembly of overseas Filipino workers as he stressed that the PBA is in that oil-rich emirate not to make money.

“In terms of earning a profit, it doesn’t make much sense (playing here) because we could easily make money if we were to stage

Azkals vow to display full potential Sunday

DUBAI—A crucial “away” goal wasn’t enough for the Philippine football team to head home with a measure of satisfaction from its trip to Colombo.
